Transition Management and Forward Action

2-womenIF YOU ARE READY FOR A TRANSITION, WHAT WILL IT BE LIKE?

Transitions can take a few weeks or months

It all depends on what transition you are contemplating and where you begin. When you choose to work with Sandra, you will clarify what you want and how soon.

Transitions come in many forms

Transitions can focus on promotion or job expansion or downsizing, a sense of overwhelm or a sense of boredom, being single or married or losing a spouse, college to first job or middle aged job to retirement. Whatever form your sense of transition is taking, coaching can help you focus on what you want to leave behind and what you want to move toward.

Transitions can be related to many things

  • age
  • health
  • economics
  • politics
  • lack of enthusiasm for your current situation
  • a desire to better utilize your talents

Each of us has a style of making changes in our lives. Some of us resist transitions while others jump into the change with abandon. Whatever your way of embracing change, Sandra can help you enjoy the process more. Having coached people who were going through one of the above transitions, Sandra starts from the perspective that your transition is unique and that you can use the added help of another observer of your process.

How might you focus during a transition?

Sandra tells a story about one of her clients:

“I remember well a client who was stuck and knew he needed to make some changes in his business life.  Tom was in his mid-earning years, smart, with a clear business plan that resulted in his business prospering. However, he just wasn’t sure that this was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

He met with me, we agreed on our coaching plan and within three sessions he had a clearer sense of what he wanted to do – and it was not to keep running his business. We jointly laid out a plan for his moving forward. That included finding a new life partner (his wife had died) making sure his kids were set off in the right direction (both had completed high school, neither had completed college) and assuring that his business would continue to thrive as he found a buyer for the business and identified what he wanted to do next.

Once he had a clear idea of the result he wanted from the transition, Tom had more work to do. Together we identified questions he needed to think about and answer; we also identified some resources that would help him clarify his thinking.”
